Anatomy of the Shoulder
(Overview of the shoulder joint.)

Shoulder pain relief get shoulder pain relief with Ultram. The shoulder is the most movable joint in the body. However,  secondary to this wide range of motion the shoulder joint tends to be very unstable. Unstable joints like the shoulder joint tend to be more prone to injury. As you can see from the diagram the ball of the upper arm (humerus) is actually larger than the shoulder joint.

Therefore, for the shoulder joint to remain stable the muscles, tendons, and ligaments must all function in unison.  Often, complications in the shoulder joint arise as the result of an injury or from and overuse or under use of the joint. In addition, degenerative processes in which tissue breaks down and may result in sever pain in the shoulder.

Some shoulder pain generates from the disruption of these soft tissues as a result of injury or from overuse or under use of the shoulder. Other times shoulder pain arises from a degenerative process in which tissues break down and no longer function well.

For effective treatment for the symptoms of shoulder pain you should consider Ultram.Relieve shoulder neck pain, shoulder blade pain, left shoulder pain, back shoulder pain, back shoulder pain, or a different type of shoulder pain with prescription Ultram pain relief drug.

Shoulder Pain
(Why the shoulder is so prone to shoulder pain.)

When one notes just how involved the shoulder joint is with regards to tendons and ligaments it is easy to understand how there is a potential for injury and subsequent shoulder pain.

Again, the shoulder joint is very mobile, therefore, the joint is not all that stable.

The humerus,  fits into the scapula in the part of the scapula called the glenoid, fossa. The glenoid fossa is a large cup in the cartilage .

The humerus is held firmly in the glenoid fossa by four muscles called the rotator cuff muscles, the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor and the subscapularis. The shoulder is further stabilized by the ligaments around (superior glenohumeral, middle glenohumeral and inferior glenohumeral ligmanets). The scapular is also attached to the clavical (collar bone) via the Acromial clavicular joint.

Common Causes of Shoulder Pain
(Understanding the cause of shoulder pain.)

The following represent a summary of the most common causes of shoulder pain. If you are suffering from shoulder pain there are several treatment options depending on the nature of the shoulder pain. Many individuals report relief from shoulder pain with Ultram.

  • Rotator Cuff Injuries:
A rotator cuff injury is an injury to one or more of the four muscles in the shoulder and is often the sources of sever shoulder pain.
can generally be treated with a injection and strengthening exercises first. For the larger, shoulder stabilizer muscles and then to the rotator cuff. However, if there is a complete tear this will usually require surgery so as to avoid later arthritis.

  • Dislocation of the Shoulder:
A shoulder dislocation is an injury that occurs when the top of s loses contact with the socket glenoid fossa of the scapula.
A dislocation of the shoulder is often associated with labral tears, rotator cuff injuries and nerve injuries. This type of shoulder pain involves reduction (repositioning) of the shoulder dislocation while researching the underlying cause of the shoulder dislocation of the shoulder.

  • AC Shoulder Joint Arthritis
AC arthritis is the result of repeated movements that wear away the cartilage surface found at the acromioclavicular joint.
This type of shoulder pain is usually treated with a simple injection and modification of activities.

  • Shoulder Separation Injuries:
A shoulder separation is a common shoulder injury in athletes that produces immediate shoulder pain.
The term shoulder separation refers to an injury of the ligaments around the acromioclavicular (AC) Joint.

The AC joint is part of the shoulder complex. It is situated at the outside point of the scapula  where it attaches to the front of the shoulder blade. The joint is held in place by four ligaments: the Acromioclavicular ligament, the Coracoacromial ligament, the Trapezoid ligament and the Conoid ligament.  The treatment for this type of shoulder pain is very specific for each shoulder ligament.

Some only require time to heal, prolotherapy (works by stimulating the body to make new fibers, which are laid down within the substance of the ligaments, thickening and strengthening the ligagments.) while more severe shoulder injuries require surgery to relieve the pain.

  • Bicipital Shoulder Tendinitis
Bicipital tendinitis, or biceps tendinitis, is an inflammatory process of the long head of the biceps tendon and is a common cause of shoulder pain secondary to its position and function. The most common cause of this type of shoulder pain is overuse of the shoulder. This type of shoulder pain is usually treated with Ultrasound, activity modification, and occasional injections although these should be avoided due to risk of rupture.

  • Fracture of the Shoulder  - fracture often abbreviated  FRX or Fx  is a medical condition in which there is a break in the continuity of the bone.  A fracture involving the shoulder will also be very painful. Bone fracture can be the result of high force impact or stress. Trivial injuries as a result of certain medical conditions that weaken the bones, such as, osteoporosis, bone cancer, or osteogenesis imperfecta. Fractures that are a result of a pathological condition are termed a pathological fracture. When a fracture of the shoulder occurs, treatment involves bringing the involved bones into a position that will promote healing and restore shoulder movement.

  • Labral Shoulder Tears
Over use is also a common cause of and subsequent shoulder pain. The soft labral tissue can be caught between the glenoid fossa and the humerus.
When this occurs the labrum may begin to tear. If the tear worsens, it may become a flap of tissue that can move in and out of the joint causing significant shoulder pain.

The flap will result in shoulder pain when you move your shoulder. Labral tears can be treated conservatively. However, if the pain still persists this type of shoulder pain may also require shoulder surgery.

  • Scapular Diskinesia:
Abnormal motion of the scapula is called scapular diskinesia.
This type of shoulder pain is most common in overhead athletes, such as, swimmers or baseball players. Treatment of scapular diskenesia usually requires retraining of the shoulder, occasionally an injection under the scapula (shoulder blade). Finally, as a last resort scapular diskinesia is treated via shoulder surgery. However,  shoulder surgery may result in a loss in the range of motion of the shoulder.

  • Gleno Humeral Joint Arthritis:
The gleno humeral joint of the shoulder normally functions through a wide range of motions in a smooth, congruent fashion.
When the articular surfaces of the humeral head or the glenoid fossa are damaged the smooth, fluid motion is compromised, and arthritis develops which will eventually cause shoulder pain.

This type of arthritis will eventually cause significant shoulder pain. Glenohumeral Joint Arthritis is often treated with steroid injections that will often relieve the shoulder pain. As a last resort there is a shoulder replacement surgery  that offers shoulder pain relief, but does not return the range of motion of the shoulder joint.

Diagnosing Shoulder Pain
(How your doctor will diagnose your shoulder pain.)

Shoulder pain may be localized or may be referred to areas around the shoulder or even down your arm. There are other causes of shoulder pain other than those outlined above. Certain diseases within the body, such as,  cancer, osteoporosis, liver, gallbladder, heart disease, or even disease of the neck or cervical spine may generate pain that travels along nerves to the shoulder.

For this reason do not be surprised if your conscientious doctor completes the following protocol to diagnose your shoulder pain:

  • Obtain Full Medical History - is information gained by your doctor by asking specific questions, either of you the patient or of other people who know you and can give valuable information all with the final goal of formulating a diagnosis and providing the proper medical care.

  • Physical Examination - do not be surprised if your doctor does not just examine your shoulder but give you a complete physical exam. Remember, certain diseases within the body, such as, such as,  cancer, osteoporosis, liver, gallbladder, heart disease, or even disease of the neck or cervical spine may generate pain that travels along nerves to the shoulder.

Diagnostic Testing - extensive Tests to Confirm the Diagnosis of a Disorder of the Shoulder:

  • Plain Film X Ray - simple X Rays can often confirm the origin of the shoulder pain.

  • Arthrogram - a diagnostic record that can be seen on an x ray after injection of a contrast fluid into the shoulder joint to outline structures such as the rotator cuff. In disease or injury, this contrast fluid may either leak into an area where it does not belong, indicating a tear or opening, or be blocked from entering an area where there normally is an opening.

  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging - a non-invasive procedure in which a machine produces a series of cross-sectional images of the shoulder.

  • Other Diagnostic Tests - aside from the above tests there are numerous other diagnostic tests that may prove beneficial in determining the origin of shoulder pain.

Be patient with regards to the diagnosis of the origin of your shoulder pain. The shoulder provides the most range of motion of any joint, therefore, the diagnosis of the underlying cause of shoulder pain can often be a difficult diagnosis.

Oral Pain Medications - if your shoulder is causing significant pain you may want to consider a prescription pain medication. Although anti-inflammatory medications, NSAIDs, will decrease the swelling associated with shoulder pain and eventually relieve some of the pain, most NSAIDs, do not provide immediate pain relief. Therefore, if you are looking for fast pain relief that can be taking with the NSAIDs, you should consider Ultram.

If you suffer from shoulder pain, Ultram will provide effective pain relief.

Ultram, is one of a group of drugs called centrally acting analgesics (agent for blocking pain). These pain relief drugs work by acting on chemicals in the brain to stop pain. Ultram represents the most effective pain relief medications available online.

The effects of Ultram are very similar to those of narcotic analgesics.  Although Ultram is not classified as a narcotic. Ultram,  is a centrally acting pain relief medication that will effectively relieve all your pain.  For more information concerning Ultram (click here).

Please refer to the following chart as a reference with regards to the appropriate use of ice or heat for treating shoulder pain:

Treating Shoulder Pain With Heat and/or Ice
Ice Heat
When To Use Use ice after an acute injury or after activities that irritate a chronic injury, to the shoulder Use heat before activities that irritate chronic injuries of the shoulder. Heat can help loosen tissues and relax the shoulder.
How To Use Read through the information on how to ice a shoulder injury presented below: Heating pads or hot wet towels are both excellent methods. Place a washcloth under hot tap water and then apply to the injured area.
For How Long Apply ice treatments for no longer than 20 minutes at a time. Too much ice can do harm, even cause frostbite; more ice application does not mean more relief. Do not apply a heat treatment for more than about 20 minutes at a time to the shoulder.

Proper Icing Technique
(There is a technique to icing shoulder pain.)

Icing is most effective in the immediate period after a shoulder injury. The effect of icing diminishes significantly after about 48 hours from the time of the shoulder injury.

In order to receive the shoulder pain and receive the best result from icing use the following protocol:

  • Perform An Ice Massage On The Shoulder - apply ice directly to the injured shoulder Move the ice frequently, do not allow ice to stay in one place for extended period.

  • Elevate the Injured Appendage - keep the injured body part elevated above the heart while icing -- this will further help reduce swelling (granted sometimes challenging with regards to the shoulder.

  • Do Not Exceed 30 minutes of Icing to the Shoulder - .ice your shoulder for no longer than15-20 minutes. Icing for longer periods may cause further damage to the tissue.

  • Allow For Ample Time Between Shoulder Treatments - allow the shoulder to warm for at least 45 minutes prior to beginning another icing treatment.

Additional Shoulder Pain Treatments
(Also demonstrated positive results in relieving shoulder pain.)

  • Stretching the Muscles and Tendons That Surround the Shoulder - can help with some causes of shoulder pain. A good routine should be established and repeated daily. A physical therapist will educate you with regards to the proper stretching techniques

  • Physical Therapy is an Important Aspect of Treating Shoulder Pain - Physical therapists use different modalities to increase strength, regain mobility, and help return patient's shoulders to their pre-injury level of activity. Some specific exercises may help you strengthen the muscles around your shoulder and relieve some of the shoulder pain.
